Why your business in Punta Cana doesn’t show up on Google (and how to fix it)
The most common local SEO mistakes and a checklist of steps to fix them today.

You search for your own business on Google and you’re not there. Or you are, but only if you type the exact name. Meanwhile, your competitors appear on the map with photos, reviews and a call button. It’s one of the most frustrating situations for any business owner in Punta Cana, and it can almost always be fixed.
In this article I go through the most frequent causes and leave you a checklist of steps so you can start correcting them today.
First: Google has two “shop windows”
When someone searches for “Italian restaurant in Bávaro”, Google shows two different types of results:
- The map with three featured businesses. That information comes from the Google Business Profile (what used to be called Google My Business).
- The web results underneath, which come from the web pages Google has read and considers relevant.
You can be in one, in both or in neither. And each one is worked on differently.
Cause 1: you haven’t claimed your Business Profile
This is the number one cause. Many businesses appear on Maps because a customer added them, but nobody has verified the listing. Without verification you can’t correct the opening hours, reply to reviews or upload photos, and Google gives it less visibility.
How to fix it: go to google.com/business with a Google account for the business, search for your company and follow the verification process. It’s free.
Cause 2: your listing is incomplete or has inconsistent details
Google wants to be sure that your business exists and what it does. If your listing has no category, description, opening hours or photos, or if the phone number and address don’t match those on your website and social media, it loses trust.
How to fix it:
- Choose the most precise primary category possible (“Dental clinic”, not “Doctor”).
- Write the name, address and phone number exactly the same on the listing, on your website and on your social media.
- Upload real photos of the premises, the team and your products, and update them often.
- Fill in services, opening hours (including public holidays) and a link to WhatsApp or bookings.
Cause 3: you have few reviews or you don’t reply to them
Reviews are one of the factors that carry the most weight on the map. A business with many recent reviews that have been answered conveys activity and trust, both to Google and to the tourist who decides where to go in two minutes.
How to fix it: ask for the review at the moment the customer is happiest, give them the direct link or a QR code on the premises, and reply to all of them, the negative ones too, politely.
Cause 4: Google can’t read your website
This is the technical problem almost nobody sees. Some websites are built with tools that load all the content with JavaScript: the visitor sees the full page, but the search engine receives a practically empty one. With no text to read, Google doesn’t know what your business is about.
Other warning signs:
- The website takes more than three seconds to load on a phone.
- It doesn’t adapt well to small screens.
- The page is blocked for search engines by mistake (it happens more often than you’d think after a redesign).
How to check: type site:yourdomain.com into Google. If no results come up, Google doesn’t have your website indexed. The free tool Google Search Console tells you exactly which pages it has read and what errors it finds.
Cause 5: your pages have no title or description
Every page should tell Google, in one line, what it is about. That is the job of the title tag and the meta description. When a website uses the same generic title on all its pages (“Home”, or just the company name), it is wasting its most important signal.
How to fix it: each page needs a unique title that includes the service and the area, for example “Dental clinic in Punta Cana | Name of the clinic”, and a single main heading (H1) consistent with that title.
Cause 6: you don’t say what you do or where you do it
It sounds obvious, but many websites have lovely phrases like “We create unforgettable experiences” and nowhere do they say “catamaran tours in Punta Cana”. Google doesn’t guess: it ranks the pages that use the same words people search for.
How to fix it: create a page for each important service, with clear text explaining what you offer, who it’s for and in which areas (Punta Cana, Bávaro, Cap Cana, Verón…). A blog that answers your customers’ questions helps a lot.
Cause 7: your website is new or nobody links to it
A newly published website needs time to earn Google’s trust. That trust grows when other sites mention you: local directories, media, associations, suppliers or customers.
How to fix it: list your business in reputable directories, link to your website from all your social media and look for local partnerships that will mention you.
